Kitsune

Kitsune (or foxes) are a common subject in Japanese folklore. They are depicted as being magical and highly intelligent creatures. Often times they assume the form of a human (often a beautiful woman) by placing a leaf or bundle of reeds on their head. This ability helps them greatly to trick others, leading to their reputation of trickster. Once in the human form, you can often distinguish them by their tail which they have difficulty in hiding, the shadow they cast will still be that of a fox, or any reflection which would still show their true appearance. I love the many legends and stories including Kitsune, check them out!
